Trendy Belts

When looking for a trendy and stylish belt you need to think of it as being two separate things – the belt itself and the belt buckle. Most leather belts these days have buckles on them that can be removed and replaced with other ones, so getting the right belt and buckle combination is almost as important for some people as matching the right shirt with their jeans.

That being said, most belts that are popular now and that are considered to be in style are not too different from what people were wearing 50 years ago. Think about the classic black leather belt (for men) – this hasn’t changed at all in that time and it probably won’t for at least another 50 years.

That being said, there has been a whole load of new styles of belts that have been released in the last 10 years that have matched the trends. The rise of the ‘emo kids’ has brought about a new niche of fashion, and many of these people like to wear multi-coloured and studded belts.

We are now at a point where some people don’t wear belts for their practicality at all - but for their looks. For example, lots of would-be trend setters wear one belt to hold up their jeans and another belt (i.e. a second one) around their waist and completely separate from their clothing. There is obviously no practical purpose to this second belt, but when worn in the right way it can look extremely trendy.

You often hear a lot of talk about what is trendy and what isn’t. There are certain trends and fashions that go through our society (each year there is usually one big summer trend and one big winter trend) and it’s up to you whether you ‘agree’ with that and whether you want to participate in it. Taking the pieces that you like from it and discarding what you don’t is what true style is.

For women, trendy belts are used in a different way to men. Lots of women you’ll see will now wear their belt way up on their abdomen to hold their dress together. These belts (often called stretch belts) and a lot thicker than the types that you’d use to hold up your trousers.

Before going out and buying a new belt (or two) it’s important the be aware of what you actually like. That being said, it is a good idea to look around as many clothes shops as you can before making an decision so that you can see what’s on offer.
